Braves News: Austin Cox recalled, Speedway Classic on deck, and more

The Atlanta Braves made a couple of changes ahead of Friday afternoon’s contest in Cincinnati. First, the club announced that southpaw Austin Cox had been recalled to Atlanta, followed by right-hander Dane Dunning being optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Left-handed Cox has been frequently recalled to Atlanta, but he has only tossed eight frames this season. In those eight innings,

he’s managed a 2.25 ERA.

As for Dunning, the move was expected after he was shelled in Cincinnati on Thursday night. He did not record a single out and instead gave up five runs.

The Milwaukee Brewers placed outfielder Jackson Chourio on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain. The move is retroactive to July 30.

The St. Louis Cardinals placed third baseman Nolan Arenado on the 10-day injured list due to a strained right shoulder. His offensive numbers are currently at an all-time low.

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed reliever Kirby Yates on the 15-day injured list with lower back pain. The move is backdated to July 29.

The Tampa Bay Rays placed first baseman Jonathan Aranda on the 10-day injured list with a left wrist fracture. He will go at least three weeks without activity.

The 2027 All-Star Game will be played at Wrigley Field.
