Per a report by NBA Insider Jake Fischer, Jonathan Kuminga and his representation were exploring sign-and-trade scenarios with the Chicago Bulls.
“I do know that Kuminga’s representation was trying to figure out some sign and trade scenario that would’ve gotten both Josh Giddey and Jonathan Kuminga paid in Chicago,” Fischer said. “I think that was something that would’ve been more likely if the Bulls waited and had Lonzo Ball sent back to Golden State instead of that deal that they already made with
Cleveland. I think that would’ve been something that Golden State would’ve liked.”
Fischer then went on to mention Nikola Vučević — a previously rumored trade target — as a potential piece the Golden State Warriors would get in return.
“But without that obvious piece, there’s a thought that Nikola Vučević would be a potential outgoing piece in a sign and trade. The Warriors have had some interest there (in the past). I don’t think the Warriors have much interest in Nikola Vučević (right now), I really don’t. I’m not so bullish that there will be a sign and trade between Kuminga and Chicago that includes Vucevic. I think there would have to be some other pieces involved. I don’t know exactly what that could entail, would entail. But I’m pretty confident that the Warriors would not be super excited about losing Kuminga for an expiring contract in Vucevic.”
Fischer then goes on to say that he thinks the likely scenario would be Kuminga going back to the Warriors on a short-term agreement.
It should be pointed out that the Warriors remain the only team out of 30 that have yet to add or re-sign a player in free agency.
