The San Diego Padres dropped a one-run game to the Miami Marlins for the second time in as many days with a 3-2 loss at loanDepot Park, Wednesday.
Dylan Cease, who has shown flashes of returning to his ace-like form recently, pitched well against the Marlins, but allowed a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning that proved to be the difference in the game.
Cease allowed a two-out single in the bottom of the first inning that plated the first run for Miami. He walked the first two batters
of the game, but then recorded back-to-back strikeouts. Agustin Ramirez stepped to the plate and delivered a single to center field that allowed Xavier Edwards to score to put the Marlins up 1-0.
The Padres responded in the top of the fourth inning when Manny Machado singled to score Luis Arraez to tie the game, 1-1.

Cease got through the fourth inning without any trouble, but ran into trouble in the fifth. Javier Sanoja reached on an error by Machado and Cease got Edwards to fly out. He then allowed the home run to Jesus Sanchez that made the score, 3-1. Cease was able to get out of the inning without any further damage, ending his day.
