If you’re adjusting your eyes to make sure you read that headline right…you did.
You know what they say, some things that seem too good to be true, a lot of times are. The Atlanta Braves just couldn’t get it done against the White Sox (13-9) after coming off a mighty win streak on the road.
Don’t worry, you won’t have to endure much more of it. We’ll just do a quick run-through of what went wrong.
Usually, we end with pitching, but this time we’ll start with it.
Remember when we said that Spencer Strider
needed to find his confidence to hit the strike zone and get deeper into innings, a contrast to what he’s shown as of late?
Well, I’ll leave this for you to re-witness for Striders’ second career start against the White Sox (3 IP/ 10 H/ 7 ER/ 1 BB/ 2 K).
The good news is, this isn’t his career-high for earned runs (8), the not-so-good news is, it was just one short. Entering the game with a 4.69 ERA, he is now sitting at a 5.24.
So, is it time to pull Strider for the season or tough it out some more?
There were some nice moments from the Braves as Ronald Acuña Jr. collected an RBI to bring Matt Olson in for the first run in the fifth, with the White Sox already leading by seven runs prior to the hit.
Both Michael Harris II and Jurickson Profar hit two-run homers in the bottom of the sixth. Profar would then go on to hit another one in the eighth, making it a three-run shot (13-9) right after an RBI single from Vidal Bruján to bring Eli White in for their sixth run.
Also, keep this little tidbit in mind. The Braves dropped two of three games against the White Sox last season.
It would be pretty unfortunate if a losing record were to be repeated against them this season, especially when you put into perspective that this is the only meeting between the two teams this year.
Until tomorrow, when Bryce Elder will look to dig the Braves out of this hole.
