Bayern Munich and Germany International Jamal Musiala has been one of football’s favoured children. Demonstrating boundless talent since a very young age, Musiala was hotly pursued by clubs and countries alike for his services. Eventually, the Musiala family made the decision in favour of Germany over England. Four years since making the decision, Musiala still has a lot love for England but no regrets about the shift.
Germany to England and back to Germany again
A native of Stuttgart, Jamal moved to England when he was 7 years old with his
family. Surprising youth camps with his dribbling technique and prolific goal scoring, Musiala was taken into the Southampton youth academy before being signed on by the Chelsea youth setup. He has represented both Germany and England at the youth international levels. Despite making far fewer appearances with his home country, it was Germany that ended up with the magical attacker in 2021.

Lots of Love for England
It has now been four years since choosing Germany. In an interview with The Athletic ( via @iMiaSanMia), the 22 year-old recalled the gravity of making that decision.“It wasn’t an easy decision,” Musiala confessed. “I still have a lot of love for England and a lot of my closest friends are from there. But it was a decision that me and my family made together.”
Due to his heritage and family’s stint in England, Musiala was eligible to play for Germany, England and Nigeria. However, it was with Germany that felt the most right call according to the player. “It felt right, but that doesn’t mean the love I have for England has ever gone away.”

Four years and forty appearances at the senior level later, Musiala has turned into a mainstay for the German national team. A very creative player with incredible dribbling prowess, JM10 is often the focal point of the German attack. Despite not winning any silverware for his country yet, Musiala is undoubtedly a game changer when he is on the pitch.
While it does go without saying that the 22 year-old can further refine himself, especially when it comes to finishing. Having said that, both Bayern and Germany will miss out on arguably their most penetrative player after his ankle injury in the FIFA Club World Cup. There has been no official statement regarding a specific timeline from the club except “next few months”. Nonetheless, it is paramount to not rush him back and allow a complete recovery.
The BFW community once again wishes a speedy, complete and healthy recovery to Jamal Musiala and sends our best to the player and his family.
