Cubs President of Baseball Operations Jed Hoyer is in the last year of a five-year contract signed to run the Cubs baseball ops department back in 2021.
Today, Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts did what appeared inevitable, given the Cubs position in the standings:
Jed Hoyer receives a multi year extension with the Cubs, per source. His contract was up after this season. The Cubs are currently tied for first place.

At this time, there’s no information on how many years Hoyer has received on his extension,
or what the contract terms call for.
I’ve been a critic of Hoyer in the past here, but he has to be given credit for putting together a solid contending team for 2025. Clearly, he was putting this together not only because, well, that’s his job, but to save his job for the future. The trade for Kyle Tucker and signings of Matthew Boyd and Carson Kelly are some of the excellent moves made to make the Cubs a club currently tied for the best record in the National League with the Brewers.
Okay, Jed, now you’ve got job security. Go out and make some deals that will make this team a World Series contender in October... and then sign Tucker to stick around for a while.
As always, we await developments. Today’s game preview will post at 4:30 p.m. CT.
