Welcome to this twelve-week countdown where we count the weeks until Nebraska takes on the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium on Thursday, August 28th.
This will be my list of Nebraska football’s 12 most indispensable players. They may not be the best. They may not even end up playing this season (which would likely be bad for Nebraska). These are the players that need to step up this season for Nebraska to take that next step.

Last season it was Ben Scott who had the responsibility as the quarterback of the offensive line at Nebraska. Oh, and he had to snap the ball to true freshman Dylan Raiola at the same time.
That is a lot of responsibility for any player and the guy who looks like will be stepping in for Ben Scott (now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) at the center position is Justin Evans.
Last season Justin Evans started every single game at left guard. So he gets to take a few steps to the right as he takes over as leader of the Husker offensive line.
Evans isn’t new to playing time at Nebraska. In 2023, Evans played in all 12 games as a redshirt freshman and made five starts.
With that all said, we know how important the center position is for an offensive line that is looking to run the ball like a Matt Rhule team hopes to run it. Also, giving their five star quarterback time to throw the ball. It is not a secret that usually a team that wins football games usually has the better offensive line.
Will Justin Evans’ transition to the new position be smooth?
If he has some troubles with the snap he should be able to sleep easy because the last center at Nebraska to have troubles snapping the ball just signed a $68 million contract extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.
