Trade Deadline season has been busy for Yankees general manager Brian Cashman, who had already acquired Ryan McMahon, Amed Rosario, and Austin Slater before July 31st even began. Two more Yankees trades have come across the radar as well, as the New York bullpen got a much-needed boost with the additions of Pirates closer David Bednar and Rockies reliever Jake Bird
.The Yankees have already designated Triple-A depth outfielder Bryan de la Cruz for assignment to make room for Bird, and that was announced
when they officially revealed that trade. They haven’t done so with Bednar yet though, and that may be partially related to the latest transaction: infielder Oswald Peraza has been traded to the Angels. YES Network’s Jack Curry reported the news (shortly before another move was announced that necessitated this trade).

International $$ for Peraza from the Angels https://t.co/OUTmmWPsJI
Wilberson De Pena is an 18-year-old outfielder, who has spent 2024-25 down in Rookie ball, namely the Dominican Summer League. He’s hit .211/.296/.451 in 31 games this year with five doubles and four homers. They’ll also get international bonus pool money.
It’s a bummer that it never really worked out with Peraza, who was once one of the top prospects in the Yankees system and a Top 100 guy per MLB Pipeline, Baseball America, and Baseball Prospectus. In 2022, fans stumped for him all year long as they grumbled about Isiah Kiner-Falefa, and Peraza even got to start some playoff games that year as the IKF experiment at shortstop came to a close. In spring training 2023, however, he was jumped on the depth chart by Anthony Volpe and never came close to showing that exciting form from 2022 again. Regular reps at third base didn’t work out this year, either, and the Rosario acquisition in particular made Peraza’s role redundant.
Perhaps a fresh start will help Peraza. Best of luck to him!
