Minor League Recap - Howe and Clark Walks Secure W for Hillcats

Columbus Clippers (45-52) - AAA

The Columbus Clippers fell to the Bisons 10-3 Friday night. The loss went to Doug Nikhazy, his seventh on the season. Nikhazy only pitched two innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk in his short outing. Bradley Hanner (3.0IP) and Trevor Stephan (1.0IP) both threw scoreless outings. Parker Mushinski allowed five runs in his 0.2 innings of work. Jack Leftwich got the team out of the inning, allowing two base runners before retiring the side. Matt Krook closed the game,

allowing one run.

Columbus finally got on the board, down by nine, in the bottom of the seventh. Petey Halpin hit a lead off single. Will Wilson hit a single, but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it into a double. With Halpin on third base, C.J. Kayfus hit a sac fly to score Halpin.

In the bottom of the eighth with one out, Kahlil Watson was hit by pitch. Milan Tolentino hit a two-out, two run homer to right center.

Akron RubberDucks (54-39) - AA

Trenton Denholm got the start for Akron, allowing only one run, a home run, in his six innings of work.

Zane Morehouse blew the save, pitching the seventh inning. Three runs were tacked on during his inning of work, but only one was earned. Morehouse loaded the bases with a two singles and a walk. He gave up another single, but a fielding error by the right fielder allowed two additional runs to score. Adam Tulloch pitched the eighth inning, giving up a final run to Harrisburg.

In the top of the second Akron tied things up with a triple from Joe Lampe.

Guy Lipscomb grounded out to short, scoring Lampe. In the top of the fifth the RubberDucks took the lead. Jonah Advincula hit a lead off single then stole second. With two outs Angel Genao singled to right to score Advincula.

Lake County Captains (50-44) - High A

Matt Wilkinson ended the game falling to 3-9 after allowing three runs in three innings of work. Alonzo Richardson threw 4.0 innings or scoreless work. He allowed a hit and two walks, striking out one. Kyle Scott allowed 2R/1ER in his inning of work. A baserunner reached on a fielding error, accounting for the unearned run. Josh Harlow closed the game, only giving up one hit.

All three runs for the Captains came in the bottom of the eighth. Maick Collado hit a lead off single, but a forceout had Christian Knapczyk at first with one-out. Alfonsin Rosario singled to left, advancing Knapczyk to third. Ralphy Velazquez, with one out and runners on the corners, hit a homer to right center to put the Caps on the board.

Lynchburg Hillcats (53-40) - Single A

The Hillcats held on to prevent a sweep, winning 5-2. Jervis Alfaro had a strong start for the Hillcats. He threw 5.2 innings, putting two runners on in the bottom of the sixth. One of his two earned runs was an inherited runner that scored after Sean Heppner came on in replacement and gave up a RBI double. Conner Whittaker earned his fifth save on the season, pitching the final 2.2 innings of the game. He only allowed one hit and one walkto keep the Shorebirds down and give the Hillcats the W.

In the top of the fifth, Robert Lopez hit a lead off single to center. Garrett Howe and Logun Clark drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Yerlin Luis singled on a liner to right to score Lopez. Howe was thrown out at home and Clark advanced to third. A forceout from Jose Pirela scored Logun Clark. In the top of the seventh, Howe and Clark drew back-to-back walks again. A wild pitch gave a free 90 to both runners. Luis grounded into a play at first, allowing Howe to score and Clark to move to third. Another wild pitch scored Clark from third. Jose Pirela hit a trip to right and scored on a groundout to first.
