NYY vs. PHI: Marcus Stroman vs. Ranger Suárez

WHAT'S THE STORY?

MLB: New York Yankees at Atlanta Braves

I don’t want to talk about last night, so let’s talk about today. (Well, at least part of today.)

Marcus Stroman will be making his fifth start since returning from the IL, and I confess he’s been better than I thought he would. He’s not really striking anyone out, so the FIP isn’t great, but seven earned runs in 21.0 innings over the last four outings is good enough that I’m not going to complain.

Stroman’s stuff is at a point where I’m going to watch his games through my fingers, but he has not been

a liability coming off his injury. His five-and-fly starts have meant he’s not exactly an asset, but six innings, one earned run against Atlanta last weekend would play well today.

Ranger Suárez is having a banger season for himself, with a 2.66 ERA and 3.07 FIP in his walk year. He’s been one of the more underrated pitchers in baseball over the last two years, and with Zack Wheeler looming tomorrow, the Yankees need to jump all over him.

We’ll get our first taste of Ryan McMahon in pinstripes, as the new Yankee third baseman bats eighth, right where you put your impact hitters. Aaron Judge, who is fine and healthy and absolutely nothing is wrong, is just getting a day off (editor’s note: ACK), meaning the Yankees go with Jasson Domínguez, Trent Grisham and Cody Bellinger left to right in the outfield.
