The Royals have acquired right-handed reliever Joey Krehbiel from the Rays, according to Rays beat writer Marc Topkin. The return has not yet been reported.
The 32-year-old reliever has pitched parts of four seasons in the big leagues with a 3.65 ERA in 70 games. His best season came in 2022 when he had a 3.90 ERA in 56 games with the Orioles. He spent all of last year in the Mariners organization pitching in Triple-A and returned to the Rays this year. He has pitched in the minors all season and has a 6.11
ERA with 34 strikeouts and 10 walks in 35 1/3 innings at Triple-A. Steven Adams at MLB Trade Rumors notes his underlying metrics are much more positive than his ERA, and he yields a lot of groundballs with a rate of 53.8 percent.
