WHAT'S THE STORY?

Appearing on CBS News 24/7 to speak about Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea just hours after the WWE Hall of Famer’s death yesterday (July 24), Chelsea Green immediately acknowledged that the late wrestling legend had “polarizing political views”.

But Green set those aside to talk about Hogan as an American icon who brought an infectious energy to his appearances, inspiring fans and his fellow wrestlers alike. The interviewer is seemingly unaware of any of the backlash toward Hogan in response to racist statements

he made on a 2010s sex tape which briefly led to his exile from WWE. Green doesn’t attempt to bring up anything “polarizing” about Hogan again, either. Instead, she lets the questions set the tone, and the host has apparently only ever heard glowing things about the Hulkster.

Chelsea’s fans are accustomed to her calling out racism and arguing for equality, however. Some saw her interview on Hogan and apparently called her out for it, prompting this statement on social media today in response:

A significant part of my role at @WWE involves engaging w the public & responding to questions, often on live platforms. Yesterday, I was asked to comment on Hulk Hogan on live tv.

Let me be clear: my stance on racism is unwavering. I do not condone it—period.

If my response (or tweet) seemed dismissive of real concerns, I sincerely apologize. That was never my intention. I tried to acknowledge a death respectfully, even when the legacy is complicated.

I am learning one day at a time and will continue to learn.

ILY my PatriHOTS,
President Chelsea

As we’ve seen in our comment sections the past few days, wrestling fans feel strongly about how Hogan should and should not be remembered in the days following his death at age 71 — so its not surprising to see wrestlers being drawn into those same arguments.

How do you think Green handled this situation?
