Real Betis midfielder Isco said he is the only one to blame for his lack of success at Real Madrid towards the end of his time at the club.
Speaking to AS, he was asked about why he was not able to have a huge impact in his final years at the club, and he did not have anyone to blame but himself in a self-reflecting answer.
He said: “When you are not well mentally, it shows in your game.
“I was going through a bad sporting and personal streak. I didn’t know how to recover. The only one responsible for
my exit is me.”
He was also asked about his retirement plans, to which he gave a very simple but honest answer; he intends to do something that many football players fail to do in their twilight years.
Isco said: “I want to leave football before football leaves me.”
He is performing well for Betis at the moment, though, and is showing no signs of slowing down, as he prepares for the upcoming season.
