Juan Soto exited tonight’s game against the Padres with what the Mets are calling a foot contusion. The severity of the contusion is not yet known.
The injury happened in the top of the fourth inning. Soto led off and, on an 0-2 count, fouled a pitch off his back leg. He hopped around and fell to a knee, but re-entered the box to complete his at-bat. He ended up grounding to second base, and would exit the game shortly thereafter. He was replaced in center by Tyrone Taylor, and Jeff McNeil was shifted
from center over to right field.
The Mets will almost certainly get an X-Ray done to determine if anything is broken, but in the meantime the team and its fans will have to wait and see how Soto feels tomorrow. Soto has been mired in a slump since the All-Star break, hitting 5-for-39 (including tonight’s 0-for-2) with two home runs, five runs scored, six runs batted in, and a 62 wRC+ over ten games.
