Welcome to SB Nation Reacts, a survey of fans across the MLB. Throughout the year we ask questions of the most plugged-in Milwaukee Brewers fans and fans across the country. Sign up here to participate in the weekly emailed surveys.

In this week’s fan survey brought to you by FanDuel, we asked fans what the Brewers should do about the pitching surplus they’ll have with Nestor Cortes and Robert Gasser both expected to return in the coming weeks. Specifically, we asked if the Crew should trade Cortes,

trade Jose Quintana, trade both, or trade neither.

After tallying the votes, this is what we’ve got:

While there was no clear consensus, the main takeaway here is that 70% of fans say the team should trade Cortes and 36% of fans say the team should trade Quintana. Both players are on fairly friendly team contracts, with Quintana making $4 million this year and Cortes making $7.6 million. Quintana also has a mutual option for 2026.

Given the fact that Quintana has stayed (mostly) healthy this season and he’s on a friendlier contract than Cortes, it seems that he’ll have more trade value, although I wouldn’t be surprised if both of them were on the roster come August.

Quintana has made 13 starts this season for Milwaukee, with a 3.28 ERA, 4.36 FIP, and 48 strikeouts over 71 13 innings. Cortes has made only two starts, getting beat up by his former team in the Yankees before turning in a solid six innings (no runs, one hit, two walks, six strikeouts) against the Reds prior to his IL stint. He’s currently rehabbing and expected to return right around the trade deadline on July 31.

Whether either or both Quintana and Cortes is on the roster come August will depend on what the front office can get in return, and if they feel comfortable dealing from a place of depth.
