WHAT'S THE STORY?

Rutgers women’s soccer kicked off the 2025-2026 athletic year with a 3-0 win over NJIT. The Highlanders had no answer for the Scarlet Knights’ offense, who controlled the ball for over 65 percent of the game and put 21 shots on net. NJIT only managed to amass three shots on net during the competition. Rutgers’ goaltender was graduate student Grace Quigley, who earned her first shutout in a Rutgers uniform after transferring to Rutgers from Virginia Wesleyan.

Tsokos broke the scoring open for Rutgers after she connected a 20 foot shot from her right leg to the back of the net for her first goal as a Knight after transferring to Rutgers from Arkansas.

Another 20 minutes would go by before the Knights found the back of the net again. This time, it was forward Nadia Ramirez who passed the ball back to forward Ashley Baran to set her up for the score. Baran would knock it in by arcing the ball over the keeper’s head.

The last goal was scored in the second half, as freshman Sophia Stiles scored her first goal in a Rutgers uniform after a kick-in by Ramirez set up her shot.

After winning their first game of the season, the Lady Knights will be back in action at home on August 17th at 5 p.m. against Fairfield.
