WHAT'S THE STORY?

She worked one house show match on NXT’s “Coconut Loop” around Florida, and a tag match on a premium live event. But since jumping to WWE from AEW, Blake Monroe hadn’t worked a singles bout on television.

That changed last night (July 22) on The CW, when Monroe beat Wren Sinclair on NXT live from Houston. Blake won with a headbutt and her new DDT finisher. Afterwards, Jordynne Grace busted into the building despite having been banned by General Manager Ava earlier in the day. Blake fought off an attack

by the woman she briefly conned into being her friend, then put her down with the same combo that beat Sinclair, but this time the DDT was onto a steel chair.

The night didn’t start off as well for Monroe. In his pep talk/card rundown to start the show, NXT commentator and H-Town native Booker T referred to her as “The Glamour Girl Monica Monroe” (at approximately the 18 second mark of this clip):

At least he didn’t use the name she used in AEW and elsewhere, Mariah May. And it’s a somewhat understandable mistake, as a wrestler named Monica Monroe is part of Booker’s Reality of Wrestling school & promotion in Houston.

We know this because, like the good worker Book is no doubt teaching her to be, she capitalized on his gaffe with a great social media post that will help all of us remember her name beyond last night’s blooper reel:

Congrats to Blake on her TV debut victory, and to her Monroe sister on making the most of her 1.5 seconds of wrestling fame (so far).
