A pretty consistent theme of late has been the potential of a disconnect within the Bayern Munich organization.
In various pursuits, it is hard to figure out exactly who is aligned with whom and who is oblivious to what is going on. At various points, everyone from the coaching staff up to the supervisory board has been involved in pursuits this summer.
Is that too many cooks in the kitchen? Maybe...but before you think this is going to turn into a gripe session, Let’s explore what is going on per
Tz journalists Mano Bonke, Philipp Kessler, and Hanna Raif (via @iMiaSanMia):
The distribution of tasks at Bayern in the Luis Díaz deal is clear. Max Eberl is maintaining contact with the player’s agent, Luis Miguel Pinho - while CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is speaking to the Liverpool board. Bayern are confident that Liverpool will have to sell after spending €310m so far this summer
Bayern are well aware that, given Diaz’s age, he doesn’t have a big resale value – but the club is still completely sold on the signing. They know they’re getting a proven Premier League player with goal threat and the right mentality.
Interestingly, this appears to be a two-man show that does not feature sporting director Christoph Freund or supervisory board members Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Some would say that is odd, others would say it is a rarity, but it does appear that Bayern Munich is attempting to keep the pursuit streamlined.
And yes, this does not mean that there is not a disconnect within the group, but is does show that there might be defined roles for who will get involved — and when — during a transfer.
The good news for Bayern Munich is that it is the only known club bidding on Diaz — as stated by FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta.
“It’s true that I liked Luis Díaz, a very complete player, but due to his contract situation with Liverpool, it was complicated — although I appreciate the player who always wanted to join us,” said Laporta.
Now, Bayern Munich is all alone in the driver’s seat and — seemingly — has the right players making the calls.
Is it perfect? No...but it just have to be good enough for this summer. After that, everyone can sort out what role they hold in the transfer game at Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich is working on hard a few deals, but could also be working through issues internally. Let’s talk about what came out of the news this week and if Bayern Munich fans should be concerned, on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
- Thomas Müller to LAFC?
- Is there a disconnect in the Bayern Munich front office — and also with the club’s supervisory board?
- VfB Stuttgart could be just as wacky as Bayern Munich these days...let’s talk about why?
- Hiroki Itō, Alphonso Davies, and Jamal Musiala were all spotted at Säbener Straße this week. Let’s talk about where things stand for each of them on their respective roads to recovery.
Song(s) of the Week: A few from Ozzy Osbourne
As a member of Black Sabbath and as a solo act, Ozzy was an icon in every way. While some generations know him for his music (or biting the heads off of flying creatures), others remember him from his reality TV show, The Osbournes where he was just a mega-star guy dealing with real dad and husband things.
I featured (probably my favorite Ozzy song) “No More Tears” back in April, but with the passing of Osbourne, I wanted to highlight a few different Ozzy-related songs, including “Mr.Crowley” — which prompted me to give the nickname to a close friend:
How about “Crazy Train”? If you have not heard it in a while, it is always good for a listen:
And...”Iron Man” because...why not?:
Oh...and without addressing much of the person and more of the persona (I have not Googled anything he’s done in years, but by osmosis I know there was some bad stuff — there always is), famed wrestler and 80s icon Hulk Hogan also passed away. It is hard to describe just how big Hulkamania was in the 80s.
While I don’t follow wrestling now, I was big into it as a kid and the Hulkster was the centerpiece of that era. So, while we are remembering Ozzy, we might as well throw some love to one of the baddest ass (80s period) walkout songs ever, “Real American” by Rick Derringer — which Hulk Hogan used:
Entertainment Rundown
In what seems like a never-ending series of travel for my summer, I am once again on the road, so there has been no action. However, I will be watching Happy Gilmore 2 this weekend and if you have somehow missed the trailer, here you go:
Müller details when he knew his style of play was legit
Former Bayern Munich star Thomas Müller might be deciding on his future at the moment, but he can recall exactly when he knew his style of play would persist through just about anything.
“At first, yes. I always knew I was good – but not how far it would take me. When Pep Guardiola arrived, it became clear to me that I wasn’t the typical Pep player. Nevertheless, in those three years, I was the one who played the most games, and I think I even scored the most goals. That’s when I realized that I, too, had something that others didn’t have. At some point, you start to believe it,” Müller told Säbener51 (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Bayern Munich’s summer transfer window could be heating up very soon.
The dominoes are falling all around Bayern Munich and each move should open up things for another. After a relatively quiet and composed approach to squad planning for the summer, it is time to start wheeling-and-dealing.
Let’s get into all of that on this edition of the Bavarian Podcast Works Show:
- With a move for Hugo Ekitiké getting close, the reality is that Bayern Munich is likely going to get Luis Diaz…whether fans like it or not. Let’s discuss…
- Bayern Munich has reportedly exited talks with VfB Stuttgart for Nick Woltemade to focus on a deal for Diaz. What should fans think? Will Bayern return to the negotiating table? Is this all spiraling out of control?
- It might just be time for Bayern Munich to rip off the band-aid. If there are options to sell Kim Min-jae, João Palhinha, and Sacha Boey, Bayern Munich should just unload them. It is time to stop thinking patience is a virtue with every player who underperforms.
- A final note on Florian Wirtz as Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO gloats over Bayern’s failure to land the star player.
