For a good portion of his youth career and into his early 20s, Timothy Weah called France home. He spent half a decade at Paris Saint-Germain before moving to Lille, with the better part of the last decade having some sort of tie to Ligue 1 and clubs attached to it.

As we hit the second half of July, there is a growing feeling that he is going to be calling France his professional home once again.

According to Fabrizio Romano on Wednesday, Juventus and Olymique Marseille are in advanced talks over

a move for the 25-year-old Weah. Following Weah’s rejection of the proposed move to Nottingham Forest last month, how quick something new could materialize was always going to be something to keep an eye on — and it has taken all of a couple of weeks for Marseille to emerge as a serious potential landing spot for a player who is very much on the market this summer.

Romano said that Weah and Marseille have already agreed to personal terms, with the transfer fee still being discussed. Previous reports had Juventus asking around €15 million for Weah, the same amount that Forest agreed to pay for him before he decided against a move to the Premier League.

While selling Weah in July compared to a few weeks ago won’t give one final profit when it comes to the 2024-25 fiscal year, Juventus do look at set to part ways with a player (if this deal does end up going through) that doesn’t necessarily have a defined role on next season’s team. Entering a World Cup year, it’s hard to believe that Weah wants to spend much (or all) of his playing time as a wingback in Igor Tudor’s 3-4-2-1 formation. He certainly wants to play as much as he can and do so at a spot that he played for a good portion of his time when Thiago Motta was Juve’s manager.

No, not as a makeshift fullback like he did in the early weeks of the 2025 calendar year. Stop it right there, you crazy people.

Weah would be moving back to a league he already knows well, to a club that he knows from the outside and will be a potential opponent for Juventus in the Champions League come the start of the league phase in the fall. He’d be playing with an old teammate in Adrien Rabiot and for a manager in Roberto De Zerbi who certainly can do some things with talented attacking players.

So you can see why Weah would want to move to Marseille this summer. And as much as he’d be leaving his famous father’s favorite growing up, the younger Weah certainly has to find the best solution for himself heading into such an important 12-month stretch.
