WHAT'S THE STORY?

We can close the loop of the Noah Davis experience with the Dodgers, as the right-handed reliever was traded to the Twins on Monday for cash considerations, three days after the pitcher was designated for assignment.

The Dodgers acquired Davis from the Red Sox for cash considerations on March 27, the day of the home opener, and he used four of his allotted five options to the minors in the 15 weeks he was with the team, riding the shuttle back and forth between the majors and Triple-A Oklahoma City.

In all, Davis was active with the Dodgers for 13 games and he pitched in five of them, with his .339 average leverage index (1.000 is neutral, anything above is higher leverage) the lowest on the team among any non-position-player pitcher with at least four appearances this season.

Davis allowed a whopping 10 runs in the middle of a blowout loss on July 4, tying a Los Angeles Dodgers record for relievers. That ballooned his stat line to a 19.50 ERA in six innings, with eight strikeouts and five walks. Unless Davis finds his way back to the Dodgers this season, he could set a franchise record for highest ERA in a season by any pitcher to appear at least five games. Position-player Kiké Hernández, for comparison, has a 15.19 ERA in his five games this year.

The 28-year-old Davis in Triple-A this season had 3.94 ERA with one save in 21 games for Oklahoma City, with 38 strikeouts and 15 walks in 32 innings.

In parts of four major league seasons with the Rockies and Dodgers, Davis has a 8.95 ERA in 57⅓ innings, with 51 strikeouts and 28 walks.

If you’re keeping score at home, Davis was the 20th different pitcher used by the Dodgers this season, a number that has since grown to 35, two shy of the Mets for this year’s MLB lead and five shy of the franchise record of 40 pitchers set last season.
