The second day of the 2025 MLB Drat has continued after an hourlong break. The Yankees have already made seven selections as we move on from Round 10: Mississippi State’s Pico Kohn, Utah’s Core Jackson, Notre Dame’s Rory Fox, Alabama’s Richie Bonomolo Jr., Texas Tech’s Mac Heuer, UNC Charlotte’s Blake Gillespie, and Houston’s Connor McGinnis. Now though, we’ll begin of coverage of Rounds 11-15. These picks have no specific
bonus slots tied to the, so you might see the Yankees take some bigger swings here and reallocate some pool money to certain picks in this range or beyond. That’s not a lock, but it’s a familiar draft strategy.
Round 11, Pick 344: Ben Grable, RHP Indiana, 6’4” 215 lbs.
Grable was at Northwestern before transferring to Indiana in 2024 and sitting out that season after undergoing surgery. He returned in 2025, and while the ERA was only fine (4.31) across 17 games (11 starts), he did strike out 26.7 percent of all batters faced, with a 10.4 K/9. He also settled the control issues that previously bugged him at Northwestern, posting a much more palatable 2.7 BB/9.
Grable wasn’t listed among Baseball America’s Top 500 draft prospects this year, but he did appear at No. 441 in 2023 (though he was not taken that year). They noted that he was also on the shelf for 2022 but had a reputation for bringing the K’s. He featured a mid-90s fastball that could reach 100, plus a low-80s slider. He also has experience in summer ball via the Northwoods League and the Cape Cod League. Grable’s fastball was still in that range in April 2025. Grable just turned 23 in May and likely profiles as a reliever unless Matt Blake, Sam Briend, and company have a trick up their sleeves.
