FC Barcelona remain hopeful of signing Luis Díaz this summer and are closely monitoring the winger’s next move, as the Colombian considers when and how to formally ask Liverpool to let him leave. Despite recent speculation suggesting that a transfer to Camp Nou is unlikely or that Bayern Munich may be ahead in the race, a new report says that sources close to the player insist that Díaz still dreams of wearing the blaugrana shirt.
The 27-year-old is currently weighing his options after a reflective
end to his vacation in Barranquilla. Barcelona are aware of Díaz’s continued desire to join the club and see him as a priority target to reinforce the left wing, especially after Nico Williams chose to renew with Athletic Club.
However, recent events have complicated the timing of his request. The sudden and tragic death of teammate Diogo Jota has left Liverpool in mourning, forcing Díaz to postpone any personal demands out of respect for the club’s emotional state.
Barcelona are prepared to act once Díaz makes his intentions clear. The club has set a ceiling of €60 million for the deal, which they view as a fair market value for a player of his profile and contract status, bearing in mind that Díaz still has two years left on his Liverpool deal. Salary expectations are reportedly manageable and would fit within the Catalans’ financial constraints.
Unlike Nico Williams, Díaz has not demanded a release clause in the event he cannot be registered with La Liga, making negotiations more straightforward from Barcelona’s perspective.
Still, the club is also keeping a close eye on Marcus Rashford, who has already been told by Manchester United that he is not part of their plans for the upcoming season. Rashford is seen as a more attainable option, and a loan deal with a purchase option could make that transfer easier to execute than one involving Liverpool.
For now, all eyes are on Díaz and the steps he takes in the coming days. If he formally requests a transfer, it could trigger serious negotiations and bring him one step closer to fulfilling a childhood dream at Camp Nou.
