Florida State set a new record for players selected in the opening three rounds of the MLB Draft with Jamie Arnold (No. 11, Athletics), Alex Lodise (No. 60, Atlanta Braves), Cam Leiter (No. 65, Los Angeles Dodgers) and Max Williams (No. 78, Miami Marlins) all picked on Sunday:

Florida State has had three or more first round draft picks in a two-year stretch, along with 1991-93 (two in 1992 and one in both 1991 and 1993) and 1994-95 (two in 1995 and one in 1994). Florida State has now had a first round selection in consecutive years on five occasions, with 2024-25 being joined by a five-year run from 1991-95, 1997-98, 2011-12 and 2014-15.

Arnold is the 17th FSU player selected by the Athletics organization and first since Boomer Biegalski in the 14th round in 2015. Biegalski also was the last Seminole pitcher drafted by the A’s, as Arnold is the 12th pitcher selected by the club. Arnold is the third first round pick and highest overall, joining Tom Cook (12th overall in 1968) and John Wasdin (25th overall in 1993). Eddie Howell, also a pitcher, was the first Florida State player selected by the Athletics in 1966.

Lodise is the 300th draft pick in Florida State history since the first selection of outfielder Jim Lyttle, who was the 10th overall pick in 1966 by the New York Yankees.

A native of St. Augustine, Florida, Lodise is FSU’s first shortstop drafted since Mike Salvatore in the ninth round in 2019 and the highest since Stephen Drew was the No. 15 overall pick in 2004.

Lodise is the 15th FSU player selected by the Atlanta Braves and the first since Sean Gilmartin in the first round (28th overall) in 2011. Lodise is the first shortstop and second infielder, along with second baseman Edwin Alicea in the ninth round in 1988. Of the 15 overall picks by the Braves, Lodise is the fifth to be taken in the first three rounds.

From Bayville, New Jersey, Leiter is FSU’s first pitcher taken in the second round, besides Arnold in the first round earlier tonight, since Parker Messick was the 54th overall pick in 2022.

Leiter is the 15th Seminole to be drafted by the Dodgers and the ninth pitcher, both the first since Wyatt Crowell in the fourth round in 2023. The second FSU player picked by LA in the first three rounds, he is joined by first-rounder David Yocum (20th overall) in 1995.

Williams was the fourth FSU player selected in the opening three rounds on Sunday, the most in team history. The Seminoles also set a program benchmark earlier in the draft with three selections in the first two rounds. The team’s four picks in the first three rounds is tied for second-most among all NCAA programs and the most in the ACC.

The Ormond Beach, Florida, native, Williams is the seventh FSU player ever drafted by the Marlins and first since Brett Roberts was picked in the 16th round in 2022. Williams is the first to be selected inside the top nine rounds and joins Taiwan Easterling, drafted in the 31st round in 2010, as the only two outfielders picked from Florida State by the Miami ballclub.
