The Twins got on the board first tonight, in the 2nd inning. Carlos Correa singled, then Ty France drew a walk. Two batters later, Royce Lewis hit a grounder to 3rd off the glove of Miguel Rojas, allowing Correa to score. Then, with 2 outs, Christian Vazquez hit a 2-run double to the gap in left center to give Simeon Woods Richardson and the Twins a 3-0 lead.
After getting through 3 innings, aided by two double plays, SWR ran into trouble in the 3rd. Back to back walks to Will Smith and Freddie Freeman
preceded a game tying 3-run homer by Andy Pages. That knocked Richardson out of the game, as Danny Coulombe finished the 4th.
In the 6th, the Twins loaded the bases with a double and 2 walks, then Royce Lewis walked to drive in a run. Harrison Bader grounded into an RBI. Then Vazquez made it a 6-3 game with an RBI single.
The Dodgers answered back with a 2-run single by Hyeseong Kim in the bottom of the 6th, as they went to work against Louie Varland.
In the top of the 7th, the Twins loaded the bases again, this time with 3 walks. Royce Lewis grounded up the first base line, fielded by pitcher Edgardo Henriquez, who promptly threw the ball into right field. That allowed 3 runs to score to give the Twins a 9-5 lead.
Jhoan Duran entered in the bottom of the 8th, replacing Anthony Misiewicz. He gave up a single to Pages, but got Michael Conforto to hit into a double play, then Kim grounded out to end the threat.
Looking for insurance runs, Correa doubled to lead off the top of the 9th. Then Ty France hit a fly ball off the right field wall, feet from a homer, driving in Correa. They didn’t end up needing that run, but Shohei Ohtani did hit a 2-run homer, his 4th consecutive game with one of those, in the bottom of the 9th. Thankfully for Duran and the Twins, that was all they got in the bottom half, giving us our 10-7 final score. It wasn’t easy, the game always felt in reach for the Dodgers, but the Twins pulled it out in the end.
