Bayern Munich youngster Jonah Kusi-Asare is in line to stay with the first team this season rather than going on loan — and serve as the backup to England captain Harry Kane at striker.
That’s according to a report from Sky Germany journalist Kerry Hau:
FC Bayern Munich wants to keep Jonah Kusi-Asare! The club has informed the 18-year-old striker that they plan to use him as Harry Kane’s backup in the new season and asked him to reject any loan offers. Furthermore, FCB is working on extending Kusi-Asare’s
ADcontract, which expires in 2026.
That is big news and a big opportunity for the youngster. The 18-year-old Swede offers a towering presence in the Bayern attack — he apparently stands at 6’5 — and though would not be projected to receive a ton of playing time, the experience of being in and around the first team could be a boost for his development. Harry Kane is not a man to take many days or even minutes off anyway, affording Kusi-Asare a low-pressure environment to cameo against Bundesliga opposition.
Is that better than going on loan? Such opportunities could still be in his future. For now, though, it looks like Bayern’s commitment to provide more chances to its academy players is serious. Kusi-Asare would be the second academy talent promoted to the role of top backup, along with Lennart Karl on the right wing behind Michael Olise.
