UFC legend Frankie Edgar, 43, ends combat sports retirement, books BKFC debut

WHAT'S THE STORY?

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Let’s start the night off by taking a look back over the three biggest stories of Monday, Aug. 18, 2025.

  1. Joe Rogan names fighter who could give new champ Khamzat Chimaev trouble: “RDR” is one of the more unique stylistic challenges in Middleweight history. Maybe he could strike back against “Borz” and score one for the weirdos?
  2. Khamzat ‘ready’ for quick turnaround for UFC 321 in Abu Dhabi (despite inactivity problems), exuberant Dana White on board: Activity would turn Chimaev into a genuine super star.
  3. Despite mixed reaction for Khamzat’s wrestle-heavy win at UFC 319, Dana White insists new champ ‘already a big star’: If Georges St. Pierre’s stardom could survive however many dominant-but-boring wins, I’m sure Khamzat can get away with a couple too.

Insomnia

Frankie Edgar, who retired in November 2022 on the heels of three consecutive knockout losses, will return to action in Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship opposite a very good boxer in UFC veteran Jimmie Rivera. As a long time “Iron” fanboy, this is perhaps the worst news I’ve ever encountered.

Is Khamzat already in a position where he can call his shots? I would definitely watch him fight de Ridder in October, even if that wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice.

I don’t disagree with Kamaru Usman’s take here, the Dricus Du Plessis team definitely underestimated Chimaev’s wrestling and preparation to their own massive detriment.

I do so enjoy giggling at the angry outbursts of a busted parlay.

Conversely, I have to admit that Belal Muhammad made me chuckle here. Maybe getting booed in Chicago gave him motivation to work on his joke writing?

Depressed DDP pounding brewskis aside, why did somebody stick their finger in his drink?

Slips, rips, and KO clips

The rare double soccer kick KO:

Lead right hand for the first knockdown, show the lead right to come in with the jab for knockdown #2 — lovely boxing!

Full guard, arm-in guillotine jumps aren’t supposed to work!
