It had been a long while since Juventus and Federico Gatti first opening talks for a new contract. So much so that it goes back to the relative early days of the Thiago Motta era — one where Gatti was essentially required to be a part of the starting lineup virtually every time out because there were so few options at the back.

A lot has happened since then, both in terms of the managerial change, the results on the season and even random chatter that the contract extension that seemed like a formality

might not even get across the finish line.

But, with Juventus players set to report for preseason training in a matter of hours, Gatti can say things have officially run through the tape.

Juventus announced on Wednesday that Gatti has signed his long-awaited contract extension that will run through 2030. Along with his defensive partner in crime Bremer, Gatti now has the long-term contract that every player desires, and will reportedly get a nice little pay raise to just over €3 million net per season along with it. For a player who has so much of a heartwarming backstory before he arrived in TUrin, securing yet another contract at Juventus and getting something that proves how he has become such a valuable part of the squad is just another chapter in that.

And all the while, the former bricklayer gets to live out his dream — and at the biggest and most successful club that Italy has to offer.

Juventus, as you can expect, were very happy to supply some Gatti hype within their announcement of his new contract:

His work ethic and humility quickly helped him earn the trust of everybody at the club, and he soon established himself as an important member of our Men’s First Team. By 2024/25 he was already a key player, making 42 appearances across all competitions and accumulating over 3,200 minutes, as well as four appearances at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Gatti has already surpassed a century of appearances for us, making his 100th against Hellas Verona back in March, showing just how important a player he has become.

With that in mind, we’re delighted to announce his contract extension.

Congratulations, Fede - see you back on the pitch again soon!

Gatti played his biggest role within the squad this past season once Bremer’s knee injury in early October ruled him out for the rest of the 2024-25 campaign. Simply by need, Gatti played game after game, fighting his way through nagging injuries — which are almost expected with how his no-nonsense playing style — and almost certain fatigue to be able to give Juventus a fighter’s chance during a season that was starting to unravel as time went on.

Even then, there was Gatti, playing more minutes than almost anybody in the squad as the final weeks of the winter arrived. By the time the season was over and he was still healing from a cracking bone in his heel, Gatti had played the most minutes in all competitions he ever had in his career (3,239) and started all but six of his 42 appearances under Motta and then Igor Tudor.

This contract extension further confirms that Gatti is a big part of Juventus’ present and future in defense. For a 27-year-old who was playing in Serie B just 3 12 years ago, the rise up the Italian football food chain continues to be as impressive as it gets. And you better believe that Gatti is only going to play like he’s the underdog story that is still fighting for plenty of respect from those who watch him every week.
