Barcelona president Joan Laporta says he’s hoping the club can avoid making any major sales this summer to balance the books.
The Catalans are still working hard to return to the 1:1 rule and also register new signings in time for the new campaign.
Barca have been tipped to potentially make a major sale but Laporta is hoping that will not be necessary, although he did admit there “are too many players in some positions.”
“What there will be are savings in terms of salaries. Pablo Torre has already left,
ADand there are others yet to be finalized, but a sale of that size, I don’t think, will happen, even though there are proposals. It would break the spirit of this team that Barcelona fans have fallen in love with, and we’d like to maintain that spirit, that magic,” he told Mundo Deportivo.
“What I meant was, we’ll try to avoid any painful departures. I won’t be specific about players because they’re all Barça players and we’re all delighted with them, but there will be some adjustments, because there are too many players in some positions, duplicates, and something will have to be done. This is at the discretion of the coach and Deco.”
Laporta was then asked what Barca need to do to get back to the 1:1 rule but didn’t want to give too much away.
“We need to save on salary expenses, and then there’s another aspect the club needs to finalize. Everything is underway and on track, and it will allow us to complete the necessary registrations,” he added.
“Work is underway to interpret LaLiga’s financial control rules. We’re working hard to make this a reality and allow us to register players. In those days, there was a lot of pressure to sign and sell players, and now we’re facing a pressure to register players.”
Pau Victor has become the latest player to leave Barcelona, with Andreas Christensen and Oriol Romeu also tipped to depart this summer.
