WHAT'S THE STORY?

Last week, the Las Vegas Raiders made the unexpected and shocking decision to part ways with standout defensive tackle Christian Wilkins because of a dispute between the organization and the player on how to medically treat a lingering foot injury.

Wilkins had been recovering from a Jones fracture in his foot that prematurely ended his initial season with the Raiders after just five games. It was reported during OTAs that he suffered a setback in his recovery, which required another surgery.

signing a four-year, $110 million contract in free agency last year, Wilkins played in just five games for the Raiders, collecting 17 tackles, two sacks and two TFLs.

We asked our community members if they thought cutting Wilkins was the prudent move or if it was a mistake.

The results were overwhelming. The vast majority of our readers thought the Raiders were in the right by making this decision.

We will see how it plays out. If Wilkins comes abck soon and stars elsewhere, the Raiders may regret this move. Time will tell.

We won't know until Christian Wilkins plays for another team if this was a great decision or not.

If he doesnt play this year, great decision, if he plays 4 games and looks like a shell of himself, great decision, if he plays the majority of the season and balls out (I highly doubt it), poor decision.

When you pay a guy 110 million, you cant afford to wait a calendar year + to see an ROI in terms of on-field production, so Im leaning towards great decision to release him, especially if he doesnt end up producing this year.

It was a good signing at the time.
No one can predict the future.
It didn't work out.
Considering the type of fracture, his age, and the fact that he won't be available for an extended period of time releasing him was the best option for the Raiders.

Why can't we have nice things?
