There was a time, perhaps not that long ago, when 22-year-old Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton would have been seen as a long-term future at the club.
The composed defensive midfielder has had successful loan spells at Blackburn and Hull City, but in the end the consensus is that he is likely to fall tantalizingly close but just shy of making the cut for Arne Slot’s defending Premier League champions.
If that’s the case, then there would be far worse landing spots for Morton to end up than Ligue 1
side Lyon, who according to The Times’ Paul Joyce have recently registered their interest in the player.
Previously, Morton has been linked with West Ham, Ajax, Club Brugge, and Braga though none of those potential deals ever progressed past the most speculative of stages.
Whether Lyon will be any different or go the same way is unknown at this stage, but if the French club are legitimately, seriously interested in Morton it could be the Reds will be eager to talk deal given their own interest in Lyon winger Malick Fofana.
Swap deals may be incredibly rare, but paired deals negotiated at the same time aren’t unusual—earlier this summer the Reds sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen shortly after signing Florian Wirtz from the Bundesliga side.
So. It appears Lyon may have a player who Liverpool want. And that Liverpool may have a player who Lyon want. Seems like something worth talking about.
