Jersey Swap: Mathys de Carvalho

Coming on for former Bayern Munich midfielder and Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso, Carvalho had a very solid game for the French side. He made some decisive passes and made some good contributions for their defense. 17-year-old Alejandro Rodriguez deserves a shoutout for his immediate impact at the end of the game, as does Georges Mikautadze

Der Kaiser: Konrad Laimer

An error here and there didn’t cost Laimer this award, and that tells you enough about Bayerns defense today. It wasn’t necessarily horrible, but it wasn’t great

either. Laimer had a better performance today compared to his counterparts on the pitch, but luckily they didn’t have to worry too much about Lyon’s attacking threats.

Fußballgott: Leon Goretzka

The German put in a good shift for Bayern in the midfield, edging over Josip Stanišić with more defensive contributions and a slightly better performance in the attacking department. He wasn’t at his best today, and it doesn’t look like fans will see that side of him any time soon, but he definitely put in the work on the pitch.

Der Bomber: Luis Díaz

The Colombian’s first day out on the pitch for Bayern may not have been perfect, but it was still pretty good. He was consistently making the effort to create goals and provide assists, despite being shut down by Lyon’s defense most of the time. Fans are hoping he wasn’t injured in those last bits of the game, because it looks like he has the potential to be a real threat in the final third. Thankfully, he did take part in post-match sprints so he should be fine.

Meister of the Match: Michael Olise

At this point, you can’t even complain. The Frenchman is good at what he does, and he proves it every game. He was fluid on attack, resulting in a brace for him, which seems pretty normal by now. The way he played it didn’t really look like he needed a striker up front to feed, he could take care of it himself.
