More of the same on Thursday from Ohio State’s coaches, the Buckeyes were again active on the recruiting trail in pursuit of elite players to hopefully join their future rosters. This close to the season and fall camp, recruiting does take a bit of a back seat to the other top priorities, but seeing the latest headlines shows this staff is rarely ever taking a day off from trying to appeal to top prospects.
Five-star prospect gets the Ohio State stamp of approval
The Buckeyes have made the 2027 recruiting class a priority each of the last two days. Specifically
at the edge rusher position, Ohio State sent out their latest offer on Thursday to a five-star talent from prep power IMG Academy.
Taking to his social media to share the latest news in his recruitment, Zyron Forstall is the latest Ohio State offeree, and rightfully so when you look at his profile. A 6-foot-4, 235 pound athlete, Forstall is the No. three player nationally and second ranked edge rusher in the class per the 247Sports Composite. The top player in Florida as well, it’s easy to see why he already has his five-star status and impressive offer list.
Schools such as Alabama, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Texas, USC, and others beat Ohio State to the punch, but the Buckeyes now in the fold can do their best to make up for lost time even with a while to go before he signs anywhere officially. From the jump, with how often Ohio State recruits Florida and their successful track record in the Sunshine State, look for Larry Johnson and staff to be present as they can be to build this relationship.
Two days in a row offering top players at the edge rusher position, it’s clear Ohio State sees the need on their current roster and in the 2026 class as well. Yes, the transfer portal can be a way to fill holes, but this program has said time and time again that high school recruiting is the way they want to build their rosters.
In the 2027 cycle, they’re looking active. More names are sure to follow, but Forstall is the latest in what could be a lengthy offer list at the position.

Top in-state native keeps the Buckeyes in the mix
Much of the recruiting news these days is obviously on the gridiron, but the basketball Buckeyes are also putting in the work. They saw good news on Thursday, when a top player kept them in the mix while narrowing a top schools list down to single-digits.
Five-star target Anthony Thompson is down to just seven schools remaining on his mind before committing, and Ohio State still has a fighting chance for the highly coveted athlete. An Ohio native out of Western Reserve Academy, Thompson is the No. 8 player nationally and second best at his position for the 2026 class per the 47Sports Composite.
The top in-state player available, Anthony has his pick of any school in the country it seems, but cutting an offer list from 30-plus schools to seven shows he’s on his way to making the call. Keeping Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Purdue, Texas, and Ohio State all in the fold, the Buckeyes have their work cut out for them, but won’t go down without a fight.
No decision date reported yet, things are certainly moving, and the hope is that Ohio State can stay in the mix long enough.

The No. 95 player nationally and the 12th best defensive lineman per the 247Sports Composite, Geralds will pick from a list that includes Michigan, Ole Miss, Oregon, LSU, and the Buckeyes.
