After heavy relief usage over the final two games against the Brewers over the weekend, the Dodgers called up Edgardo Henriquez from Triple-A Oklahoma City as a fresh arm in the bullpen ahead of Monday night’s series opener against the Twins.
In 18 games for Oklahoma City, the first 12 of which were on a rehab assignment while on the injured list with a fracture in his left foot, Henriquez has a 5.89 ERA with 26 strikeouts (a 30.2-percent strikeout rate) and 11 walks in 18⅓ innings.
He last pitched
on Friday, throwing 13 pitches to face two batters, with a walk and a strikeout. Over his last 13 games, Henriquez has 20 strikeouts against six walks, with a 2.63 ERA in 13⅔ innings.
Henriquez being well rested is timely, after both Lou Trivino and Anthony Banda each pitched in all three games against Milwaukee. The Dodgers used three other relievers on each of Saturday and Sunday, with the bullpen covering 10⅔ innings over the two games.
Trivino was designated for assignment after pitching each of the last three days. The veteran right-hander, on his second team this season, led the Dodgers with 26 appearances in the 54 games for which he was active after signing with the team in May. Trivino with the Dodgers had a 3.76 ERA with 18 strikeouts and seven unintentional walks in 26⅓ innings.
Henriquez has yet to appear in the majors this season, so he’s a candidate to add to the Dodgers’ 35 pitchers used this season, three behind the Mets for most in the majors this season. Henriquez, who last year made his major league debut in the final week of the regular season, was the 40th pitcher used by the Dodgers in 2024 to set a franchise record.
