Jofre Torrents has admitted it was a dream come true to make his Barcelona debut against Vissel Kobe in Japan on Sunday.
The highly-rated left-back is being tipped to break into the first-team squad this season and admitted he was thrilled to have taken to the field for the Catalan giants.
“I’m very happy and thrilled to have been able to enjoy these minutes that the coach has given me. Very happy to have been able to fulfill my childhood dream, which was to debut with the Barça first team,” he told
ADreporters.
“At first I was a little nervous, but the moment the referee blew his whistle, the nerves went away.”
Jofre also spoke about his desire to work his socks off and try to gain some first-team minutes despite the competition for places.
“I hope to perform at a very good level and try to achieve my objectives, which are to get as many minutes as possible with the Barça first team. That’s what I’ll try to do. Keep working and try to achieve this,” he added.
“I define myself as a technically quite good full-back, I know how to break lines with driving and offensively I consider myself good.
“Defensively is what I struggle the most, but I also consider myself a reliable full-back who gives 100 percent in every game.
“I know they are very good players (Balde and Gerard Martín) and I try to be there to show the coach that I can play minutes. I have to keep working and wait for my opportunity.”
Flick was full of praise for Torrents and Dro Fernandez after the match, suggesting they may get more chances to impress in the next two games on the tour.
