Second-seeded Luciano Darderi registered seven aces and won his second straight title, beating Carlos Taberner of Spain 6-3, 6-3 in the championship match.

Darderi, a 23-year-old from Italy, won 87 percent (20 of 23) of his first-serve points while cruising to the victory. He won last week's Nordea Open and has prevailed in nine consecutive matches.

Darderi is 4-0 all-time in finals. Taberner, 27, played in his first career title match.

Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina completed an impressive 24 hours by knocking off fourth-seeded Ben Shelton 6-2, 7-5 in the semifinals in Washington, D.C.

Davidovich Fokina, the 12th seed, upset top-seeded Taylor Fritz at nearly 2 a.m. local time on Friday night. He took advantage of Shelton's 35 unforced errors, including five double faults, to offset the American's seven aces. The Spaniard also converted four of six break-point opportunities.

In the other semifinal, seventh-seeded Alex de Minaur didn't let his 33 unforced errors keep him from ousting French lucky loser Corentin Moutet 6-4, 6-3. The Australian, who had more winners (20-13), also made the 2018 final at this event, losing to Germany's Alexander Zverev.
