Marcos Tomas Perez, a former security officer for the Miami Heat, has pleaded guilty to charges of stealing and selling team memorabilia valued at millions of dollars. Perez, who worked with the NBA team from 2016 to 2021, admitted to accessing a secured equipment room multiple times to steal over 400 game-worn jerseys and other items intended for a future Heat museum. He sold more than 100 of these items, worth approximately $1.9 million, to online brokers, often below market value. Among the stolen items was a LeBron James NBA Finals jersey, which Perez sold for nearly $100,000, later auctioned for $3.7 million. Law enforcement recovered close to 300 more jerseys and memorabilia from Perez's residence. He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and a fine of $250,000.
