On September 21, 1979, West Indies legend Chris Gayle was born to Dudley and Hazle Gayle in Kingston, Jamaica. He began his cricketing career with the Lucas Cricket Club. In 1998, the left-handed batter
put up a notable performance with his bat. Notching up 364 runs in seven matches with a hundred and three fifties, he ended up as the leading run-scorer in the tournament. In September 1999, he broke into international cricket with his debut ODI match against India in Toronto. After six months of his first ODI, he also got his debut Test cap against Zimbabwe in Trinidad in March 2000.
In 2006, Gayle recorded his best ODI year. With 1217 runs in 32 matches at a strike rate of 83.81, he ended the year as the second-highest run-getter. In November 2010, the southpaw hammered 333 runs against Sri Lanka in Galle and registered his best Test score. He also captained the Windies side in the 2009 and 2010 editions of the T20 World Cup. Playing in the cash-rich league from 2009 to 2021, he served three teams: Kolkata Knight Riders, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), and Punjab kings (PBKS). In his 12-year career, he amassed 4965 runs with six tons and 31 fifties in 142 matches, at a strike rate of 148.96.
He is the only player to win the illustrious Orange Cap for two seasons in a row, becoming the highest run-getter while representing RCB in 2011 and 2012. Gayle delivered his service to RCB from 2011 to 2017 and during this period, he accumulated 3420 runs in 91 matches at a strike rate of 154.40. He is currently the third-leading run-scorer for the Royal Challengers in the league's historyu.
