A fire aboard the USS New Orleans, an amphibious transport vessel anchored off Okinawa, has been extinguished with the help of Japanese forces. The U.S. 7th Fleet reported that the fire, which began in the forward part of the vessel, was contained and later extinguished with assistance from the Japan Self-Defense Force and Coast Guard. Two sailors sustained minor injuries, but the vessel remains stable with no pollution reported.
