What's Happening?
The Horn of Africa Initiative was established during the World Bank Group/IMF Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., on October 18, 2019. It involves the Ministers of Finance and representatives from Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia, with South Sudan and Sudan joining later. The initiative aims to address regional challenges through coordinated efforts, focusing on infrastructure connectivity, economic integration, resilience building, and human capital development. The initiative is supported by international stakeholders such as the African Development Bank, European Union, and World Bank, with additional support from Germany, the United Kingdom, and the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa.
