Relatives of Israel May, the first Kent Police officer killed on duty, gathered to honor his memory more than 150 years after his death. Officer May was killed on August 24, 1873, in Snodland after being attacked with his own truncheon by Tommy Atkins, who was later sentenced to 20 years in prison for the crime. The rededication ceremony took place at All-Saints Church in Snodland, with Richard Weeks, Officer May's great-great-great-nephew, serving as the guest of honor.
