Medway Council has initiated a consultation regarding proposed changes to vehicle access on Rochester High Street. The council aims to extend the current no vehicle restriction, which is enforced every Saturday, to also include Sundays and bank holidays from 10:00 BST to 16:00. The proposal includes the installation of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at Blue Boar Lane, Crow Lane, and Boley Hill to prevent unauthorized vehicle entry. Emergency services and permitted vehicles will retain access. The council plans to remove existing chains and enforce no left or right turn restrictions at Boley Hill. A six-month warning period will be implemented for first-time offenders, who will receive warnings instead of fines. The consultation is open until September 21.
