What's Happening?
The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced the procurement of six additional Land Ceptor launchers for its Sky Sabre medium-range air-defence systems. This decision, revealed on August 22, involves a GBP118 million (USD158 million) contract with MBDA, aimed at doubling the number of deployable Sky Sabre systems operated by the armed forces. The Sky Sabre system, also known as Enhanced Modular Air Defence Solutions (EMADS), integrates a Rafael Surface-to-Air Missile Operation Centre for command-and-control, a Saab Giraffe Agile Multi Beam 3D radar, and MBDA Land Ceptor launchers. The system is capable of guiding 24 Common Anti-Air Modular Missiles (CAMMs) simultaneously, with a maximum range of 28 km, and can also fire the extended range CAMM-ER missiles up to 45 km.
