What's Happening?
On August 21, 2025, stakeholders gathered in Abuja for a regional workshop aimed at tackling climate change impacts on agriculture in West and Central Africa. The event focused on revitalizing the Community of Practice (CoP) on foresight analysis, a strategic approach to anticipate and mitigate future challenges in the agricultural sector. Dr. Alcade Segnon from the Alliance Biodiversity and International Centre for Tropical Agriculture highlighted the increasing challenges posed by climate change to the region's agriculture and food systems. The workshop aimed to equip participants with skills to mainstream foresight analysis into research programs and policies, addressing both climatic and non-climatic drivers such as population growth and environmental degradation. Dr. Abubakar Dabban, Executive Secretary of the Agricultural Research Council of Nigeria, emphasized the importance of strategic planning tools to proactively identify emerging trends and develop resilience strategies.
