John Kranz Notz, Jr., a prominent Chicago attorney, historian, and preservationist, passed away on July 22, 2025, at the age of 93. Notz was renowned for his civic leadership and scholarship in architectural and landscape history. He had a lifelong connection to Geneva Lake, Wisconsin, and was deeply involved in public service and family life. A private burial will be held for his family, and donations in his memory can be made to the Society of Architectural Historians, the Newberry Library, and Yerkes Observatory.
