Charlotte Betty Jane Slechta, a devoted mother and wife, passed away peacefully at her home in Lyons, Illinois, on July 27, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on February 6, 1929, in Chicago's Loretto Hospital, Charlotte was the first of two children of Irene and Irving Zackman. She graduated from Farragut High School in 1947 and married Ludwig 'Louie' Slechta the following year. The couple moved to Lyons in 1957, where Charlotte managed their finances and cared for their three children. Charlotte and Louie were married for 60 years until his passing in 2008. Charlotte was known for her love of life's small moments, including baking, reading romance novels, and fishing, despite never learning to swim. She is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Visitation and services are scheduled at Woodlawn Funeral Home and St. John's United Church of Christ.
