On August 23, a fundraising event took place at the Summerland Pier, where dozens of participants jumped into Okanagan Lake to raise funds for the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre. The event, titled 'Jump in to Help,' aimed to gather financial support for furnishing the new food bank facility on Henry Avenue, which is currently under construction. The facility will also include 60 units of affordable housing. The estimated cost for the furnishings is $350,000, with the Summerland United Church pledging $50,000. Anne Ellis, a minister at the United Church, promised to jump off the pier in her wedding dress if the church raised at least $1,000, a pledge she fulfilled after raising $2,000. Kerry Anderson from St. Stephen Anglican Church also joined the event, wearing a wedding dress provided by the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Shop. The fundraiser successfully raised approximately $10,000, with donations continuing to come in.
