Josephine Lucia Voltattorni Goncher, a long-time resident of New Lenox, Illinois, passed away on August 5, 2025, at the age of 99. Born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, Goncher was a first-generation American of Italian heritage. She dedicated much of her life to community service, working as a phone operator at AT&T and in the business office of St. James Hospital for 43 years. Goncher was also an election volunteer in South Chicago Heights and a life-long member of San Rocco Parish. Her family includes her son David Goncher, daughter Doreen Johns, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Goncher was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, and several in-laws. Her funeral arrangements are being handled by Smits – Steger Memorial Chapel, with a private mass and burial planned.
