Martha Newton Memmott, a retired teacher from the Rochester City School District, passed away on August 21, 2025, in Portland, Maine, at the age of 78. Memmott, who was born in Salamanca, New York, and grew up in Little Valley, New York, was a dedicated educator and community volunteer. After graduating from Buffalo State College with a degree in special education, she taught at School 5 and School 29 in Rochester until her retirement in 2001. Memmott was actively involved in her community, serving on the condo board of her residence and volunteering with the Special Olympics and other outreach centers. She was also a key figure in Little Valley's annual Holiday Cheer effort. Memmott is survived by her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial services are pending, and donations in her memory are encouraged to support her favored charities.
