George Cary Nix, a devoted sailor and community member, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on August 18, 2025. Born in Evanston, Illinois, Nix was a self-taught seaman who cherished sailing with friends and family. He graduated from Colby College in 1961 and served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserves. Nix had a successful career in business, including roles at Anken Chemical & Film Corporation and Xerox, before founding his own company, Alternate View Corporation. He was deeply involved in community activities, serving as Commodore of the Canandaigua Yacht Club and participating in the Jewish Home of Rochester community. His memorial service will be announced at a later date.
