
The Indian Postal Department (India Post) has announced new features for Inland Speed Post, which will take effect from October 1. Ministry of Communications
has revised tariffs. Under the new rates, the base price for sending Inland Speed Post (documents) anywhere in the country, outside the local area, will be Rs 47. India Post launched Speed Post on August 1, 1986, revolutionising mail delivery with its fast, reliable and time-bound service. This initiative was part of the department's modernisation efforts -- aiming to provide efficient and secure delivery of letters and parcels nationwide.
New features of Speed Post
The government has upgraded Inland Speed Post, with new features designed to enhance reliability, security and customer convenience. Here are the new feature:OTP-based secure delivery

New tariffs for Speed Post
To address rising operational costs and invest in innovation, the government has revised tariff for Speed Post (documents). The tariff of Inland Speed Post was last revised in October 2012. With the revised rates -- a parcel from Delhi to Mumbai (aprox 1400 km) can be sent with a starting price of Rs 47.Here are the new rates:

Items from 251 grams to 500 grams: Rs 70
For distances between 201 and 500 kilometers
Items up to 50 grams: Rs 47
Items from 51 grams to 250 grams: Rs 63
Items from 251 grams to 500 grams: Rs 75
For distances between 501 and 1000 kilometers
Items up to 50 grams: Rs 47
Items from 51 grams to 250 grams: Rs 68

What Else?
"Registration is also available as a value-added service under speed post for both documents and parcels, customers can have addressee specific secured delivery specifically designed to bring trust and speed together. A nominal charge of Rs 5/- per Speed Post item (Document/Parcel), plus applicable GST, will be levied for the value-added service of ‘Registration’, wherein the item will be delivered exclusively to the addressee or a person duly authorised by the addressee," said Ministry of Communications in a statement."Similarly, a charge of Rs 5/- per Speed Post item (Document/Parcel), plus applicable GST, will apply for the value-added service of ‘One-Time Password (OTP) Delivery’. Under this feature, the item will be handed over to the addressee only upon successful confirmation of the OTP shared with the delivery staff," it said.
